April is the Cruelest Month

Last year around this time I wrote a post titled My Soul is Fettered to an Office-Stool. And yeah, due to the nature of my job, it's happening again now: work is going to consume my life for the next four weeks or so, and posting may get sparse around here. Actually, I can think of at least ten things on my to-do list that ought to take priority over blogging, at the moment:
  1. examining every one of my stray thoughts to see whether I can turn it into a short play (because I feel that I need to build up an arsenal of one-act plays)
  2. writing said plays
  3. doing my taxes
  4. making my room/apartment more beautiful and livable
  5. reading (plays, novels, The New Yorker)
  6. seeing theater
  7. attempting to have a life and see friends
  8. writing about said life in my pen-and-paper journal
  9. taking long walks whenever the weather is nice enough
  10. getting enough sleep
  11. trying to squeeze all of these activities in while working till at least 8 PM nightly, and sometimes going into the office on weekends!
Actually, the challenge of goal #11 excites me; to triumph over this cruelest of months! And if I succeed in that, perhaps I will have some good thoughts/stories/opinions to share with you on this here blog. But maybe that won't happen till the merry month of May...

The Military Jacket for Men

military mens jacket Blue Inc JacketI love military style for men and women. When this Twill Harrington Jacket in khaki turned up for Mr Style Eyes courtesy of Blue Inc, I almost kept it for myself. He wouldn't have let me though as he liked it too much himself. A great casual jacket with some military details like the pockets and epaulettes. Keeps off the wind and rain but fairly light weight for the summer. It is also really versatile and goes with almost any casual outfit.

What is he doing in the picure? I have no idea, but I am pretty sure that if it involves compost and dirt he shouldn't be doing it on the kitchen work surface.

Israeli American New York based Yigal Azrouel is one designer who gives me oxygen. His silhouettes and relaxed giving off a modern boho look & that’s the reason why I love him. Most of his tees in this collection have raw edges, which are showing up a more often in men’s fashion and style. I also adore the fused shorts; absolutely fantastic. Head on to Forward.

NEH Grant to the National Film Preservation Foundation

William S. Hart

NEH AWARDS $305,000 TO THE
NATIONAL FILM PRESERVATION FOUNDATION
TO PRODUCE TREASURES 5

New DVD Set Will Present the American West in Early Film

Thanks to a $305,000 grant awarded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Film Preservation Foundation will produce Treasures from American Film Archives 5, a ten-hour DVD set presenting the American West in early film. The anthology will draw from the preservation work of the nation's preeminent silent-film archives—the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, George Eastman House, the Library of Congress, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Archives, and the UCLA Film & Television Archive—and explore how film recorded and mythologized the American West from 1897 to 1938.

Some of America’s earliest movies brought the West’s distinctive landscapes and peoples to faraway audiences. By 1910, narratives set in the West accounted for one-fifth of all U.S. releases and had emerged internationally as the first film type for which “American-made” become a selling point. While Westerns were helping to put Hollywood on the map, the real West became a popular subject in educational shorts, travelogues promoting rail and auto travel, industrial profiles, newsreels, and government films about agriculture, Native Americans, and conservation. Film exported the West to every part of the globe and inspired a movie-made vision of America far beyond our shores.

The three-disc anthology will reclaim this little known history by presenting an array of features and shorts previously unavailable on video. Scheduled for release in fall 2011, Treasures 5 will feature audio commentary, new musical accompaniments, and program notes and will reunite the production team from previous NFPF DVDs: curator Scott Simmon (UC Davis), music curator Martin Marks (MIT), and designer Jennifer Grey. The NEH grant builds on a generous start-up grant awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts in December 2009.

The NFPF's critically acclaimed Treasures DVD series is widely used in libraries and universities around the world. The sets have won awards from the National Society of Film Critics, the Video Software Dealers Association, and Il Cinema Ritrovato, the festival of film preservation in Bologna, Italy, and have become a staple in the teaching of film and history.

The Treasures 5 grant was made through the NEH’s Preservation and Access program. These grants support initiatives that “provide an essential foundation for scholarship, education, and public programming in the humanities.” The NEH designated Treasures 5 as a We the People project, a special recognition for efforts that promise to “strengthen the teaching, study, and understanding of American history and culture.”

The National Film Preservation Foundation is the nonprofit organization created by the U.S. Congress to help save America's film heritage. Since starting operations in 1997, the NFPF has assisted institutions in 48 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, and helped preserve more than 1,560 films. The NFPF is the charitable affiliate of the National Film Preservation Board of the Library of Congress. For more information on the NFPF's programs, please visit http://www.filmpreservation.org/.

The Most Worn Dress of the Spring 2010 Collection

Dress #36 - The peplum 3/4 sleeve banded mini dress...

Out of each collection, there seems to be a favored piece that is worn more often than the rest and in the case of the spring 2010 line, it is definitely the peplum mini.

Victoria's classic and structured design has been seen on not only the designer herself, but Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, WAG Yvonne Connolly, Danielle Bux, and Ugly Betty star America Ferrera.

Victoria Beckham's Very Stylish Week

Undoubtedly, Victoria Beckham stepped out in quite a few dazzling ensembles last week and we all took notice... and so did InStyle magazine who nominated the fashionista for "Look of the Day" not once, not twice, but three times last week!

Osman Yousefzada vs. Victoria Beckham

Rumors are swirling that Victoria Beckham may have copied a dress from British desinger Osman Yousefzada's fall 2009 collection. Osman first showed his flowing wrapped column dress with internal corset in his fall 2009 collection and, ever since a dress with a similar structure and shape appeared on Victoria's NY catwalk in February, the fashionistas have been whispering about the similarity.

"A lot of people have mentioned the similarity to me and of course it is very flattering. I created the dress by wrapping my bathroom towel at first to get the shape, and then by doing the same thing with material and securing it with an internal corset, so the fabric is allowed to move effortlessly," the designer explained. "It is very flattering to think she may have tried my dress and been inspired to create something similar, since it means she must have liked the way the dress was cut and the way it felt to wear. I like to dress powerful, confident women so it's great to think the dress might have inspired her."
.
Victoria is said to have borrowed the pale blue gown from the designer's atelier last year, but returned it without buying it.

A spokesman for VB said: "Column dresses have been around for decades, probably even longer. In addition, Victoria has had variations of the column dress in all her previous collections so any suggestion of plagiarism is nonsense!"

What do you guys think about this?

Celebrities in dVb: Danielle Bux in Victoria Beckham Spring 2010

Danielle Bux wore the extremely popular peplum mini from Victoria's spring 2010 collection to the TRIC Awards at The Grosvenor House Hotel on March 9, 2010 in London. I think she looked adorable but I wish she wore a different shoe - something strappy and fun instead of basic pumps.

David Beckham Wishes You All a Happy Easter

Hi everyone

I’m now back in LA and it feels good to be back with the family.

I’ve been working hard with the doctors and physios and the injury is progressing well and I’m on track, which is good news.

Last Saturday I was at the Galaxy match, supporting the guys. The win was very welcome and I’m hoping to be back playing as soon as I can, trying to help the team go one better than last season and win the Championship.

We’re currently on a family holiday, which is nice and relaxing, but I just wanted to take time out to thank everyone for their continued support and best wishes, it means so much.

Hope you have a happy Easter whatever you have planned, take care.

VB's Faves: Gray Zipped Skinny Jeans and Louboutins

Over the past two months I've noticed that Victoria Beckham has seemed to favor her new gray skinny jeans with zipper details worn with her Louboutin boots. She first wore the combo to the Fashion For Relief Haiti show in February and has been spotted three times since then - one was just last week.

David Beckham Memorializes His Grandad in Ink

When out for dinner with his three young sons last week, there was something new and different about David and no, I'm not talking about his cast and crutches.

On the soccer star's right arm, the word "Grandad" was written. This tattoo is to memorialize his grandfather, Joseph West, who passed away late last year.

Becks was extremely close to Joe and often cited him as his ssoccer inspiration.
