Nicole's outfit was complete with a pair of Christian Louboutin "No prive" snakeskin slingbacks.
This is another fabulous look for her.

Mini Trend Report: Summer 2010 Denim & Footwear

Denim is a wardrobe staple. Practically everyone has it in their closet. This season, it's taking on an Americana theme, especially when paired with fringed accessories, Little House on the Prairie-inspired calico prints, and clogs. The best news is that denim is not just for jeans. At the retail level, denim is showing up in many incarnations, on everything from hats and handbags to strapless

Biking Over Blogging

This morning I put my hair in a braid, donned my most stylish neon jacket (a collarless 3/4-sleeve windbreaker from F21), and went for a bike ride along a new route - scenic PCH. Luckily, no snakes were spotted on this ride, although I nearly rode over a tiny lizard who refused to dart out of the way. Although my hands are numb from the bumpy road and my legs feel like putty, I'm going to

Review about McKenzie Book Store

Hello everyone,
What a lovely sunny day it is today.

I'm happy to review a wonderful book store, but not just any book store.
This one is different, it sells used books.
And I have had the opportunity to browse and buy a few books from
McKenzie book store about 3 days ago.  And guess what?  I just got my
books this morning by Fed Ex.  That's what I call fast service.
McKenzie Books is an on line bookstore, based out of Beaverton, Oregon. they carry an extensive collection of new and used books in every category.

I chose my books in the clearance section under $1.99 where it says
very used but still acceptable, I wanted to see what they would look like.
They are in perfect condition so I can just imagine what condition the newer ones
would be in.  Cause you do have some books at higher prices like $7.99, $19.99, but these are for bigger and/or newer books.

They also buy back books that go all the way to 2006.
They are also happy to call themselves a green company because of what they do.
They do not chopped down tree but sell used books, and why not read up on what part they play to call themselves GREEN.
If you are looking for a special title or writer, when you are a member and you're logged in, you have access to BRAIN.   What BRAIN does is it allows you to create a ''want list'' of sorts that automatically notifies you the minute we get a book in matching your title,, author, ISBN, or keyword search. You can set preferences such as the minimum book condition, how often & when to get alerted, maximum number of books to include in each alert & more.
I would call this the book alert.

They will also be launching an affiliate program through Share-A-Sale Network, so keep a look out.
In the meantime you can still join the affiliate program that they already have in place:
Every time you refer someone to join in, you get $5.
Read about it here.

This is a great spot to hang out, which is where I'll be at a lot from now on.
Hope you'll join me.
Remember to tell you friends, buy and sell your books here.
At McKenzie Book Store.

I've got wheels and you wanna go for a ride

Lately, I've been thinking about power-pop music. Not something I ever had much cause to do before. But then I saw Girlfriend at Berkeley Rep (prev. post), the new musical written around Matthew Sweet's 1991 power-pop album of the same name. And also, I'm slowly working my way through McSweeney's San Francisco Panorama, and just read Michael Chabon's essay about power pop and the 1970s band Big Star.

Chabon writes: "[Power pop] is happy music--eminently "poppy"--which depends for its power on the cryptic presence, in a lyric or a chord change or a bit of upside-down vocal harmony, of sadness, yearning, even despair. [...] True power pop is rueful and celebratory at the same time, glorifying desire and frustration, which is why so many power-pop songs concern themselves with the subject of Tonight, or Tomorrow Night, or Saturday Night, or some other night that will only be perfect for as long as it can be deferred. [...] All the clouds of power pop are worn inside out to show the silver lining."

When I read that, it made me think of my new favorite song, "The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side" by the Magnetic Fields. (69 Love Songs was one of the things that helped me cope with the busy season at my job.) If you don't know it, here's a fan-created music video:

I guess, strictly speaking, this is not "power pop"--there's no guitars or drums or vocal harmonies in the mix. But it fits Chabon's dictum of "eminently happy/poppy music that is haunted by despair." With its bouncy synthesizers, its wacky spring-like thing twanging away in the background, its sunny title, "Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side" sounds like it ought to be a happy love song. But listen to the lyrics--and the purity of yearning contained in that last "wanna go for a riiide"--and it becomes one of the most poignant songs I have ever heard. It makes my heart hurt.
